Leander Club in Henley on Thames

A major upgrade of this historic clubhouse building - the home of British rowing – involved major challenges including its important Conservation Area location and environmental and flooding issues associated with its Thames-side position.

The project sought to provide a new, state-of-the-art gymnasium, crew quarters, rest area, physiotherapy suite and other facilities for international oarsmen, in preparation for the 2000 Olympics. To achieve this, half of the existing building was demolished and replaced. In addition, more clubhouse bedrooms with en-suite facilities were provided. An extended Club Bar and new Members’ Bar, office facilities and new main entrance hall were integrated into the design. The project received National Lottery funding as a centre of excellence for heavy weight rowing.
